Thank You

Okay, I’m getting this in now, while I can, while I’m thinking about it, before I explode, and before the next 18 to 26 years when I expect to misplace my brain and become a barely-literate, half-asleep zombie person.

Thank you to friends and family who have been there for us as we get ready to populate the earth with a couple more little wankers. Dave and I are well into our late 30s, and fairly solidly formed human beings. But we were still pretty ignorant about this whole “procreation” thing, besides knowing how to prevent it, which is a pretty awesome thing to know how to do.

Now we are weeks or even days away from having our twin boys, and after the outpouring of support we’ve¬†received, we are feeling ready. As ready as we’ll ever be. Which is to say, we still don’t know shit. But we’ll figure it out.

People have shaken their heads in a sympathetic way, and said “I don’t know how you’re going to do it, with two.” The truth is, we don’t know either. But we’ll do it somehow. We don’t know any better. This is our first time as parents, so we have nothing to compare it to. Yes, it’s going to change everything.¬†Yup, it’s going to be insane. Yes, I will very likely melt into an inconsolable puddle on occasion.

But we’ll get through it. We’ll figure it out. Not because we are heroic or energetic, or even that smart. But because we don’t have much choice. We’re just going to have to get through it somehow.

And so that’s where you, all of YOU, the grand, universal YOU, but also the personal, known-to-us you, have all been such a huge help. We have been arranging our home to welcome a couple little blobby dudes, and I can say we haven’t spent a penny on clothing. I’m still washing and organizing socks, onesies, hats and bibs.

If we didn’t know we needed something, someone has helped us. If we were going to get something we didn’t need, someone told us. We are in the final stages and getting the last incidentals. We feel ready.

Sort of ready. As ready as we’ll ever be.

So, thank you. Thank you friends and family. Thank you, Portland and Twitter people. Thank you, blog readers. Thank you, internet strangers. Thank you weirdos and obnoxious people. Seriously. We are learning what to do, as well as what not to do. So thank you.

Are you not sure if you’re a weirdo or obnoxious person? It doesn’t matter. Thanks anyway.

  1. The collective weirdos from the internet are so excited for you guys!

  2. Going through it with you is more fun than doing it myself, so thank YOU! Can’t wait to continue following your journey.

  3. Oh, I’m pretty sure you’d be insane, a puddle, etc at moments even if you were only having one baby. It’s a big change. You’ll figure it out. And continue to figure it out as they grow and change…
