As you may have noticed, I’m on a kick to get rid of stuff and ramp up our savings. This might be the exact opposite of most newlyweds who, in the first few months of marriage, usually settle in to feather their nests and pick over gifts and wedding loot. I’m happier than ever that we instituted a “no gifts” policy for our wedding. I’m not sure what we would have done with another microwave or crock pot or vegetable steamer. We already have veggies up the wazoo.

I’ve been writing about thinning our possessions, saving money and trying to eat healthier. Some people are super into it. The economy sucks, we’re living in a consumerist hangover, and suddenly, it’s not so uncool to live with less. People are sharing stories about realigning priorities, getting out of debt, going smaller and living with fewer toasters and veggie steamers.

I’m fully on board with this movement. You’ll probably see me write about it a lot.

However. I imagine there are some people who are really not all that interested in the contents of my closet. Or maybe they don’t want to hear about trying to live debt free and about building savings. And for crap’s sake, we don’t have a TV either, and can’t I just shut up about the healthy living bullcrap? How about more snark and cat puke stories?

I know! Cat puke is awesome! With this in mind, I’m working on a site revamp, where I can have separate areas for Downsizing, Travel, Neurosis, Portland and other stuff. For now, it will all still be on But if you’ve been following me for years, or if you come for the occasional boob story, and don’t want to hear any self righteous minimalist hippie stuff, you can avoid it. For people who are interested in our downsizing adventures, as we go from conventional consumerists to minimalist gurus, I’ll have it served up and neatly organized, separate, but not far away from my personal blatherings.

I’m going to draw pictures for the site, too. I was good at it in third grade.

Right now, this is all behind the scenes as it takes a while to customize themes and get everything looking pretty. I’ll need to transfer my whole site to a new server soon also, which sounds intimidating because it IS intimidating. I don’t know how to do any of that. I’m just pushing buttons over here. So, whoops, BOOM, hopefully North Portland won’t go up in flames.

It’s likely this site will see more revamps in the coming months as we start implementing our plans for world domination. I promise, it won’t hurt a bit.

  1. We finished downsizing our place! Even the storage space! Lots to go to Goodwill, lots to shred. We actually now have space in our extra spaces! And now I can fill it with a home office!

Well, I’ve said it over and again – if they don’t like it then don’t read it. :) I like it myself. It motivates me. I should be debt free by June of 2011 and then I have a year to save and move my tail back to Portland. I hope to have downsized significantly so when I move it will be fairly easy.
