Mt Rainier From Portland?

It’s fricken cold in Portland. But it’s also clear and bright. Looking north from downtown Portland, I spied this view:

I think so.  You can click on the image above for hugeness. Another big photo here.

I’m not crazy, right?

  1. Yep. That’s Ranier. She appears every now and then. From my parents’ house (where I grew up, an hour-plus south of Portland), on a clear day we can see Jefferson, Hood, Adams, St. Helens and Ranier. It’s no wonder I’ve always lived within 50 miles of the Pacific Crest.

  2. So coool! I noticed that Mt. Hood was looking rather lovely yesterday, and she was all Matterhorn’ed out! I <3 volcanoes!

  3. Yep, that’s Ranier. Btw, The “what mountain is that?” guide at the top of Council Crest includes an indicator for Ranier, if I recall correctly.

I think it’s got one for Jefferson too, but I don’t think I’ve ever actually seen it from Portland.

  4. I still get tickled every time the mountains are out. Every! time! Lately I’ve been driving east on Lombard (after a weekly mid-day appointment) and it has become my favorite road in the city to see Mt. Hood and St. Helens, and on a rare day — Ranier.
