All In The Family

The other day, I fondly remembered the family gathering that occurred last year for my sister’s wedding in California. We had grandparents, aunts and uncles all visiting from the east coast. We sat outdoors at my parents’ house, relaxing under the arbor, yakking away in heavy Massachusetts accents. I hadn’t seen my grandparents since 2006.

At some point my dad, his brother and my grandpa were all sitting next to each other. My dad and my uncle have always had a distinct resemblance. But what I noticed as the three of them sat together was their knees.

My dad, my uncle and my grandpa were all wearing shorts. And they had IDENTICAL knees. It didn’t matter that my grandpa was 92, or that my uncle is a near professional skier, and my dad hasn’t skied reguarly in years. They were all thin with athletic, sinewy legs, and identical shiny knees. If you squeezed any of those knees, they would be identically ticklish, too.

I remembered out of the blue. It made me happy.

  1. I wandered over here this morning when someone tweeted your “iPhone Bill” post. I have since signed up for Google Voice (Neat! Thanks!) and I’ve been bothering my wife all day with “Test Messages”. Anyhow, I’m sure she would thank you for THAT were she present, but in any event, I came back to thank you for that post, and now I need to thank you for this one, too.

My brother got married in Boulder, CO, at the end of July, and it was an event stacked high with things I will never forget. So, thanks to you, I got to remember out of the blue, too.

    Thanks again! I’ll be back!

  2. Thanks for stopping by, Matthew! Tell your wife I said I’m sorry about all the test messages.
