So we are excited about moving back to Portland. We love Portland.

But we also love Astoria, and it is bittersweet to wrap up our lives here. Every time I drove back to Astoria after being away, I would take a deep breath, gaze over the ships in the river, the hills of Washington, the Astoria-Megler Bridge, and thank my lucky stars to live in such a beautiful place.

My first road trip in Oregon included a stop in Astoria, an outing with the man who was to become my eventual husband. We visited many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many times after that. We got married at the Astoria Column in 2010. About a year ago, we decided to quit our jobs and move to Astoria. We spent the year exploring the north coast, drinking good beer, making new friends, and also, making some babies.

I can tell you, a year does not feel like a long time. We will miss this place. We will certainly be back, in one way or another.

Thank you, Astoria.

  1. Wow, stunning photographs. I have followed your blog since you moved from Portland to Astoria, and I know how much you love both places. At least they’re not so far that you won’t be able to visit. Good luck in the next (exciting) phase of your lives!

  2. Your photos make me homesick for Astoria and I’ve never even lived there.

  3. god heather… did you take all the photos? the red sunset photo is frikkin’ exquisite.
i am so sorry i never made it up there…

  4. I have followed this blog since I took my crappy job in San Diego and had LOTS of free time to fantasize about moving to Portland. I almost did last year. I lost your blog ( and a little bit of my soul at this desk) and only recently found it again. It was during a time where I was searching for where I belong in this world. Your posts made me fall in love with Portland all over again. So in 1 years time, me and the husbunny will pack up and move on up to the PNW. Your experiences have given me the balls I needed to make the move. I have NEVER left the city I was born and raised in except for vacations. This will be my first big move, and I am excited for it. Your blog is in my favorites now on MULTIPLE computers so that I will not lose this gem that has given me the inspiration. Sappy? Yes. Who cares, I am moving to Portland YALL!
